Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Yes. You are right. The title of this blog is absolutely ridiculous and doesn’t  make any sense, but it will.

Recently, my roommates and I discovered a new video game called Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars. When we first played the demo, we noticed the concept of the game was very basic: Two goals, one ball, and you control a mini RC car that has special boosting capabilities. Simple enough. Little did we know that a game as simple as this would slowly take over our free time for months to come.

It started out as a casual thing, some playing here, some there. It was pretty frustrating at first, actually, because the computer opponents were very good and a big learning curve was involved regarding the controls. But after a couple days (hours), we were finally masters and dominated the game. To this day, I’m not too sure what exactly created this addiction. I think the simplicity of the game is what attracts us to it. Companies like Apple and Target like to follow that simplistic and clean approach to attract customers.

Currently, we are fighting off the addiction as we sit around our house, waiting for someone to give in and say “Sonic?”. We always answer in unison “YES!”.

San Diego Outside

A couple of months ago, I got into a really awkward and weird bike accident with another student on campus. As a result, I fractured my patella (knee cap) and haven’t been able to do any high-impact activities since. I have gained 150 pounds… just kidding. But seriously, I have gained six (all muscle).

Because I have been pretty immobile for a while, my friend Nick introduced me to the wonderful world of hiking. Incredible! Since then, we have decided to put our skills together (the knowledge of hiking and web design) and create a website centered around hiking in San Diego. San Diego Outside (the name of the site) will be different than every hiking website out there in various ways. It will be a great user experience with tons of information on each and every page. The website will also have a very personable and quirky feel to it. Informative and entertaining!

I will let you know when we decide to launch this thing, but expect it very soon.

Happy hiking!

EDIT: The website has been launched!

A Summer Abroad

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Last summer, I was fortunate enough to study abroad at Oxford University. During the seven or eight weeks I was there, I traveled to seven different countries and 15 different cities. It was and will be the most memorable time of my life.

I took a ton of pictures and wrote a bunch of journals and was smart enough to use my knowledge of websites to make an online blog. This was a great way to keep my family happy and an even better way to organize all of my thoughts and experiences.

I’m not going to go into too much detail about my travels, but you can read about it and see everything by going here: Adam Abroad. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Happy travels!

AMAzing! (Bad play on words)

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Some of you may know about my involvement with the SDSU Chapter of the American Marketing Association. For those who do not, here is a quick background.

As a freshman, I decided to get more involved on campus. I came across a flier* for the American Marketing Association.

* NOTE: Firefox told me that “flyer” is incorrect and “flier” is correct. After a quick Google search, I found that both are correct, interchangeable spellings of the word, but “flier” is preferred over “flyer”. Interesting.

I went to the first AMA meeting and absolutely fell in love. It was much different than any other club on campus and I really felt at home. The next three years went something like this: I ran for a board position and became VP of Interactive Media/Webmaster (www.sdsuama.com), then VP of Finance, and finally President.

Recently, the SDSU AMA was featured in “Marketing News Magazine” and received Honorable Mention in the Karl Mann Website Competition at the National AMA Conference in New Orleans.

I am really going to miss AMA when I graduate next year. It has been my life for the past three years and I will miss it more than anything.
